Crane Rail Mounting Systems

Typical Gantrail Installation
Gantrail installation with varied clip types

Horne South Africa is the sole distributor of Gantrail products throughout Africa.

The 'soft mounted' crane rail fastening system is the most common system used nowadays for securing crane rails. The reasons why the system is so successful, is that the clips are easy to install, the clips are easily adjustable (even during maintenance 10 years later) and the slight rotation of the rail which is provided by the rubber pad, prolongs the rail and crane wheel lifespan.

There are typically 2 types of installations, a welded base or bolted clip type installation. The welded base clip is welded on site. The bolted clip is placed on a stud which is usually fixed to the gantry during fabrication.

A clip is available for virtually any size rail and can accommodate even the highest of lateral forces that are generated by heavy class 4 and 5 cranes.

The Gantrail MK7 pad which is inserted under the rail has the following advantages:

  • Evenly spreads the load from the rail to the girder.
  • Compensates for uneven surfaces under the rail.
  • Prevents corrosive wear between rail and girder.
  • The slight rotation of the rail permitted by the pad prolongs crane wheel and rail life.

Horne South Africa offers a free design service for specifying the Gantrail soft mounted system.
